Cooking icon has sustainable fish to fry

COOKBOOK author Margaret Fulton is joining company canteens, leading scientists, seafood wholesalers, restaurateurs, conservationists and fishers across Australia on Friday to promote Sustainable Seafood Day.The Marine Stewardship Council, which has been operating globally for 11 years, six in Australia, is behind the fourth Sustainable Seafood Day, to promote certified sustainable MSC-labelled seafood globally.Participating restaurants, cafes and canteens across the country will serve sustainably-farmed fish on Friday, as a lead-up to the second largest seafood season of the year, Easter.Tree Tops Cafe at Taronga Zoo, Canterbury Leagues Club, the UTS Cafeteria and Women's College at the University of Sydney are among those taking part, along with Sydney staff canteens at Google, Microsoft and IBM.The Western Australia rock lobster fishery was the first fishery certified to the MSC standard. MSC favourites include yellow-eye mullet from South Australia's Lakes and Coorong district, New Zealand hoki and Patagonian scallops. Aldi supermarkets, Birds Eye and John West participate in the MSC-labelling scheme. As of January this year, 52 MSC-labelled seafood products were on sale in Australia - an increase of 40 per cent on last year.Helen Pitt
